MY BREEDING PRINCIPLES

My goal is to breed healthy appenzellers with good temperament and typical appenzeller appearance.

My breeding dogs will be examined for at least hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and patella luxation. The knees will be palpated while the dog is awake and also when sedatazed. If needed also the knees will be x-rayed.
To prevent the characters of my litters to become too soft or hard I'll also consern the temperaments of the breeding partners.
Success in dog shows is of course a desirable plus for my breeding dogs but it will not be the decisive factor in making my decisions about breeding. Neither will the possible other test or competion results  but they are of course considered as assets.

My main principle is to breed quality over quantity.
So I will always consider breeding carefully and paint a mental picture of what I'm expecting of the said litter. I will carefully evaluate the strenghts and weaknesses of the pairing and make my decisions based on that.
If I decide to use some of my dogs more than once there should already be some visible results of how the first litter has grown up to be. And of course the second partner should preferably be from a different bloodline than the first.

Breeding dogs is all about taking controlled risks and every combination made should also be evaluated as a single case.
